Temp Nurse
By Glenna Finley
“Most of the time you look like a reasonably intelligent kitten.”
Nurse Jane Chapin, stopping over in New York for a temporary assignment working for a broadcasting company, was doing perfectly well until the arrival of attorney Joshua Blake. He’s been sent by the main office to evaluate the company’s efficiency—but when he walks into the office after hours, she mistakes him for an applicant for the page-boy job, and he thinks she’s a secretary. He’s rude, and she gets mad—and when an ink bottle and a filing cabinet drawer get involved, things go from bad to worse, and they quickly develop the relationship of oil and vinegar. “I don’t know when I’ve seen anyone rise to a snide remark more energetically,” he tells her. “You’re in the ring before the bell sounds.”
Then a company producer is attacked in the office, and Jane’s apartment is ransacked. Jane and Josh, when they can manage to put aside their differences, must work together to figure out who is behind the dangerous attacks. The truth is the only thing that can save them—but they will have to ignore their own gnawing doubts about each other long enough to find it.
